Implementation
JEA implements PENFAX after a large benefit pension plan
switches to an independent trusteed plan
Project Summary
Our client's pension plan is a multi-employer defined benefit pension plan for provincial health care workers, including 10,000 pensioners and 1,400 deferred members, plus over 43,000 individuals who have benefit entitlements under the plan today.
This organization chose JEA to replace its legacy pension administration system. In selecting JEA, the committee explicitly recognized JEA as the leading provider of pension administration systems in the Canadian public sector. Prior to hiring JEA, this pension plan had become an independent, jointly (employer and union participation) trusteed plan. Their move to joint trusteeship meant that the organization would have to replace or establish integration points with many of the legacy systems to which they had previously enjoyed direct access.
Objectives
The new pension system required a number of upgrades to modernize and improve business processes beyond the existing legacy pension administration system. JEA implemented PENFAX into the existing system to enable web access to the system for plan members, automate the administration process, and establish integration points with the old administration’s HR systems.
How We Excelled
JEA used its structured methodology, PenMethods, to support the efficient implementation of the new administration system. We used the PENFAX Suite of Products to integrate and support the following services:
- Pension administration functions
- Year-end reporting functions
- Statutory compliance
- Web-enabled member self service
- Actuarial valuation calculations
- Pension payroll system.
JEA continues to work closely with this client, helping to maintain the system and plan parameters, as well as introducing new functionality, when required.
